Senior Lecturer, MSc Programmes Director

Trevor is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Aquaculture who has 25 years experience in marine environmental assessment. Initially he worked at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, investigating impacts of offshore oil development, but after completing a PhD in Marine Ecotoxicology in 1995, he moved to the Institute of Aquaculture to manage research and commercial projects.

Trevor is the Director for the MSc Programmes, responsible for development and administration of all taught post-graduate programmes at the Institute of Aquaculture. He also teaches on these programmes, in particular coordinating modules on Environmental Management. Trevor also teaches on undergraduate programmes in Marine Biology, Aquaculture and Biological Sciences, where he coordinates two modules on aquatic sciences.

Trevor heads an active research team working on environmental sustainability of aquaculture development in the EU, South-east and East Asia. In particular his interests include:

  • modelling impacts and interactions of aquaculture and the wider environment
  • functional ecotoxicology of aquaculture chemicals
  • mitigation of environmental impacts of aquaculture through effective development strategies

Trevor has been Principal Supervisor to 11 completed PhD students since 1998 and is currently supervising 7 PhD students. Trevor was a member of an Expert Working Group on Animal Feed Additives (FEEDAP), for the European Food Standards Administration and is presently a member of the Core Group (Environment) for the EU Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform.
