Dr Mags Crumlish
Dr Mags Crumlish is a research fellow at the Institute of Aquaculture. Her research activities include the identification, characterisation
and treatment of aquatic bacterial pathogens in a wide range of farmed fish species. She also works part time in the Veterinary Diagnostic
Service in Stirling where she conducts routine bacteriology identification assays and integrates immunological and molecular based methods
for pathogen detection within diagnostic cases.

Prof Jimmy Turnbull
Jimmy is Professor of Aquatic Animal Health and Welfare in the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling. My research interests
lie in understanding determinants of health and welfare in farmed aquatic populations and translating that understanding into improved
farming practices. I have been working in this area since 1998. I was the Course Director for the MSc in Aquatic Veterinary Studies and
Aquatic Pathobiology for more than 14 years and currently provide specialist lectures at several UK universities. I have acted as external
examiner for PhD theses in the UK, Belgium, Norway, India and Australia.

Prof Brian Austin
My research interests centre on fish pathology and marine biotechnology. Specifically, I research the taxonomy, ecology, pathogenicity
mechanisms (emphasising haemolysins and extracellular enzymes) and control strategies (principally vaccines and probiotics) for
bacterial fish pathogens, especially aeromonads and vibrios. The work on marine biotechnology involves the development of novel
antibiotics for the control of antibiotic-resistant strains of human pathogens, notably methicillin-resistant Stapthylococcus
aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant enterococci.

Fiona has worked within the disease group of the department since 1990 and is experienced in a wide range of techniques invaluable to the
Veterinary Diagnostic Service. Fiona is responsible for the efficient running of the departmental Virology Unit and provides support for the
commercial, research, and teaching activities in this area.
