PhD Student/SEAT Researcher
Arlene Nietes Satapornvanit (Jigsz) has an MSc degree in Aquaculture from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. She conducted her research on the Effect of feedtypes/forms on survival and quality of Peneaus monodon post-larvae, which was conducted both at the AIT campus and in the field in Songkhla, Thailand. She obtained her BSc degree in Fisheries (major in Business Management) from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, with a senior project on A Study of a Family-run Aquaculture Business in the Philippines.
She has more than 20 years working experience in several capacities, as follows:
- Extension officer: credit-assisted ADB Aquaculture Development Project in the Philippines among milkfish & shrimp farmers
- Researcher: shrimp PL quality, freshwater fish seed quality
- Trainer: warm water aquaculture, rice-fish, integrated fish farming, Logical framework approach, farm management economics, technical writing
- Development & outreach projects
- Academic: curriculum development, teaching (various subjects)
- Project & research management, action research
- Editing/publications, website management
Currently she is a PhD student looking at sustainability issues related to the trade of seafood (esp. shrimp and tilapia) from Thailand to Europe. She is also a full-time researcher with the Sustaining Ethical Aquaculture Trade (SEAT) Project at Kasetsart University, Thailand (partner 9).
