Applied Physiology Overview
Professor Ross's group developed from his initial interests in fish physiology, particularly relating to marine and deep sea species. After joining the Institute of Aquaculture his research moved into freshwater cultured species, especially tilapias and carps.
For the last 25 years interest has focused increasingly on new, indigenous species for aquaculture. Key projects have been the development of technologies for Cichlasoma culture and more recently a series of major projects on Menidia [Chirostoma].
Some work has also been conducted on Latin American native shrimp.
