Our programmes address the Ecosystem Approach to Aquaculture Development and have taken two directions: the strategic evaluation of large
regions for aquaculture exploitation and development, and the use of GIS in detailed facility location within a site.
Since 1983 Professor Lindsay Ross and Dr Carlos Martínez-Palacios have collaborated as Principal Investigators on the major theme of development
of native species for aquaculture in Mexico and elsewhere in Central and South America.
The group developed from initial interests in fish physiology, particularly relating to marine and deep sea species. After joining the Institute of
Aquaculture research moved into freshwater cultured species, especially tilapias and carps.
